Vintage Gold and Diamond Concealed Watch Bracelet by David Webb
A vintage gold and diamond watch bracelet by David Webb. The circular dial with Arabic numerals and integrated within an articulated domed bracelet of principally yellow 18 karat gold in a woven design to a concealed clasp, interspersed with trios of diamond pavé-set white gold panels of identical design. The diamonds weighing approximately 10 carats in total, the central trio of diamond panels engraved at the edges and comprising a flap to conceal the dial. Signed Webb and stamped for 18 karat gold. Measuring approximately 18 cm (= 7.1 inches). Circa 1970s.
David Webb (1925-1975) opened his first shop on 2 West 46th Street, New York City, in July 1948: He was only 23. By 25 years old his was being featured on the front cover of Vogue and worn by a glittering array of the great and most beautiful women of the age. His jewels have been worn by Jacqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor. The First Lady, was particularly fond of Webb’s designs and commissioned him to create official gifts. This patronage affirms Webb’s place as an iconic American designer.
