Mid-Century Platinum and Diamond Lady’s Watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre
A 1960s lady’ platinum and diamond wristwatch by Jaeger-LeCoultre. The bezel and strap set with marquise-, baguette- and brilliant-cut diamonds. Circular dial with Arabic numerals. Signed and numbered, with French assay marks.
The mid-20th Century includes two decades of intense stylistic shifts in jewellery. These shifts can be seen to mirror the social changes between the 1950s to 1960-70s.
In 1947 Christian Dior’s revealed his revolutionary, ‘New Look’. It marked a shift in fashion from the short straight skirts and stiff jackets with high necks and broad shoulder-padded of war-time austerity. Necklines lowered and sleeves disappeared with full skirted, off-the-shoulder dresses perfect for elaborate collar-length bib necklaces and broad bracelets to be shown off during the 1950s.
