Mid-Century Platinum and Diamond Bracelet
A superb mid-century platinum and diamond bracelet. The centre designed as a stylised knot comprised of two mirror image sections set with baguette- and round brilliant-cut diamonds embracing a large brilliant-cut diamond. Each side accented by a pavé-set bombé diamond band further opening into three rows of subtly tapered round- and baguette- diamonds. With an integrated clasp and safety latch. Circa 1950s.
In Ancient Greek mythology diamonds are referred to frequently not as ornaments but as weapons of magical strength. For example Medusa is reported to have been decapitated with an ‘adamant sickle’. Similarly in Roman myths Cupid’s potent arrows were tipped with diamonds.
