Gold, Diamond and Green Tourmaline Clip Earrings by Andrew Grima
1970s pair of tourmaline and diamond clip earrings created by the great late Andrew Grima. Designed in a typical of Grima modernist style consisting of elaborate, textural gold structures; Each of these bold earclips feature a large, step-cut green tourmaline adorned with an arch of brilliant-cut diamonds. Tourmaline weight: approximately 6.16 and 6.06 carats.
Andrew Grima channelled his natural love of Art into his designs. Grima’s pieces are characterised by an emphasis on organic arrangements of metal and precious or, more often then not, semi-precious stones. After his first encounter with the suitcase from Brazil, Grima continue to favour semi-precious stones in his designs. From agate, rutilated quartz to watermelon tourmalines and fire opals Grima focused on the unique patterns and colours of these stones. Although they had a relatively low worth, he valued their originality.
