Gold, Diamond and Carved Jade Necklace by Mario Buccellati
Mario Buccellati (1891-1965) opened his first shop in Milan, 1919. The business grew successfully, despite the cataclysmic upheavals of war raging for a second time that decade through Europe. Throughout the first decade of Buccellati’s business he established premises in Milan, Rome and Florence. In 1949 Mario received a very special commision. Pope Pius XII requested Buccellati create an icon for Princess Margaret as a gift to make the first British Royal visit to Vatican City. In 1951, Mario opening his first New York store, with his son, Luca. The company received success in the States, opening a second New York store in 1954, this time on Fifth Avenue.
